The remanufactured lens might be built to a similar lens formula but looks nothing like the original. The original Trioplan is not exactly cheap to buy or readily available in M42, but Exacta mount is easier. It would be fun to try out the new lenses and see how they compare with the vintage Meyer optics - sadly, I don't think that's ever going to happen. The high prices of the new lenses often makes the old glass look positively cheap even at their currently inflated values! Prices of the vintage Meyer lenses seem to have risen since the resurrection of the company - probably simply due to increased publicity. My Trioplan (in original box and in very good condition) cost £160 which seemed like a huge amount at the time of purchase for what is essentially a special purpose lens. I've noticed these new lenses - but I find the prices are really too high to be worthy of consideration my pockets just aren't deep enough! Tom's photos show that it can be used effectively as a more 'general-purpose' lens but there are often 'better' options. Thanks René - I like to shoot bokeh-centric photos so I love this lens although it only produces this kind of effect in the right light conditions. Mounts available for DSLR and mirrorless cameras including Canon, Fuji X, Nikon, M42, Micro-Four-Thirds and Sony E"īut it is not only about a new Trioplan, here are some more:.100% aluminum differential thread which is noiseless, providing a silence and smoothness ideal for digital filming.Created with high-end coated glass from Schott, allowing for higher contrast, improved sharpness and lower vignetting.Based on a classical triplet construction, with three lens elements separated by air spaces - just like its predecessor. The best of artistic, classic photography coupled with today’s state-of-the-art technology."Recapture the beauty, art and essence of the 'soap bubble' bokeh with the new Trioplan f2.8/100 for DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

And no more need for an adapter: Mounts available : Canon, Nikon, Fuji X, M 42, Sony E, Leica M and Olympus/Panasonic. I don't have anything Meyer-Görlitz so far, not sure if I would like such a lens, but it is a rather interesting effect when used in a way that actually adds to the picture.īut - here is some great news for the Meyer Görlitz fans: It must have been a Catholic company, lol, they have just risen from the dead!Ī kickstarter project made it possible, 452 people contributed €360,000, that means in February 2016 you can buy a brand-new state-of-the-art technology Trioplan 100/2.8 again, for €1,499, pre-order price €1,399. No wonder Tom's pictures can't show this effect with the exception of the last shot he obviously forgot to put a lens on the camera (EXIF: "Lens: NO-LENS"). Yes, that is what it stands for, the swirly soap-bubble bokeh when used wide open! Great demonstration, Simon! Here are a few shots I've taken with the Trioplan over the past year - by no means the best examples available still learning it's ways! It's more famous for the weirdness it produces wide open.

The Trioplan is never going to win any awards for sharpnessīut it's OK stopped down a bit.
